We drove the scenic wildlife loop around Custer State Park. The park was named after Lt. Colonial George Custer. We were told to take this route specifically to see wildlife such as bison, elk, antelope, etc. We only saw a single, lonesome, bison next to the road! Ha ha! 😜 The scenery was beautiful, though, and made up for the lack of wildlife.

Jeff and I also went into Hill City and enjoyed an afternoon checking out shopping, vendors, galleries, restaurants, etc. It is a fun, historical small town with lots to do and see. Hill City is the home to the world’s largest Smokey The Bear made of wood, and South Dakota’s largest candy store, Candyland. 😬

We saw Crazy Horse Memorial from afar and although it’s still under construction, it is quite incredible. The memorial is depicting the Oglala Lakota Warrior, Crazy Horse. It was started in 1948 and still in the works. It will be the world’s second largest statue if and when it is ever completed. Pretty neat! 👍🏻
