Deadwood, SD is quite a cool town with lots of history surrounding it. Almost overnight it went from a small gold mining camp to a booming gold and gambling town in 1876. It was known in the west as one of the biggest gold prospecting towns and drew many famous outlaws and Wild West characters to it’s borders. It’s residents included Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and Seth Bullock to name a few.

We went to Deadwood on Friday morning and it was hosting a massive antique car show and the downtown streets were packed. It was fun to walk around and look in the shops and see all of the historic buildings. Many of them were from the 1800’s and had historical building plaques, which were fun to read. The town is still know for gambling and has small casinos scattered around, along with many saloons, eateries, and shops.

We have come to the conclusion that we love South Dakota! 😊 The Black Hills and the towns here are so unique and full of history and are extremely clean and well-cared for. The people are very friendly and welcoming. It is so refreshing to see people who care about their state, culture, communities, and country. Good job, South Dakota! 👍🏻🇺🇸
