Happy Hump Day everyone! š«šŖ
We visited the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead this week. š¬ They are a short 30 minute drive from Las Vegas. That damn dam is amazing!!! What an engineering miracle it is. We toured the visitorās center, watched a movie on the building of the dam, and walked across it. The views from the dam and observation desk are gorgeous. The Colorado River is really low this year and you could see the prominent water lines on the rock of the Black Canyon. This also means that Lake Meadās water level is very low, too. Nevertheless, still beautiful.
The Hoover Dam was built in the 1930ās, during the Great Depression. It was completed in 5 years, ahead of the estimated 7 years. The dam was originally named Boulder Dam, but was rededicated to President Herbert Hoover in 1931. There was more than 5 million barrels of Portland Cement used to build it. Wow! I could literally go on with cool facts that we learned about the damn dam all day, but I donāt want to bore you too much! š
Lake Mead is beautiful! It is the largest man-made lake (reservoir) in the country and is located both in Nevada and Arizona. There are nice beaches and recreation areas all around it. Weāve seem videos and photos of it when it is full of water and it looks quite different now. Still very pretty. šš»
We wish you all a great week! š
