Hi everyone! We are in Leeds, UT, and it’s a small little town with under 1000 population. We went to Silver Reef Museum & Ghost Town in Silver Reef, UT, this week to explore in the spirit of Halloween. 😬 It was our first Ghost Town visit. They are so interesting and have tons of history attached, which we find fun.

Silver Reef got the name because it was the first and only place in America where silver was found in sandstone. The town was started with a silver mine and mill, then refinery. It was also known for the Wells Fargo & Co. stop on their route. It is located in high desert in the southwest corner of Utah, just 30 minutes from Zion National Park. The town consisted of the Wells Fargo building, mill, mine, refinery, hotel, a few saloons, jail, bank, restaurants, schoolhouse, apothecary, printing press, and a few dozen homes. The town was started in the 1870’s. Now it is a National Historic Site.

The town was centered around Main Street, which was a mile long. The views are gorgeous from this spot. Most of the buildings were made from local stone and rock. The majority of them are now just remains and walls standing here and there. There is a gravel trail around all of the sites with markers, so you can get a feel of what once was. 👍🏻

There were a few famous shoot-outs in the town and it had been frequented by old west characters such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Butch had a girlfriend, Anne Bassett, who lived in the bank building after it had closed. He spent a lot of time in Silver Reef.

This was a cool place and worth a visit if you are ever in this area.

Sending our love to you all! 💗💗
